Life in a Day

Life in a Day

A documentary that is going to be made out of footage shoot on the 24th of July 2010 and submitted on YouTube by You Tube users from around the world.
The documentary will be produced by Ridley Scott and directed by Kevin Macdonald, director of " State of Play" and " the Last King of Scotland". It's going to be what they call "The first user-generated feature-length documentary" . And it will be premiere in January at the Sundance film Festival.
Users whose footage will make it into the documentary will be credited as "co-directors" and 20 of them will be flown to Sundance.
Scott Free "Ridley Scott Prods" will work with Rick Smolan, creator of "A Day in the Life" and CEO of Against All Odds Prods., a California-based organization that specializes in the execution of large-scale global projects, to distribute cameras to people in remote regions of the world in an effort to ensure that the film is as inclusive and representative as possible.
"'Life in a Day' is a time capsule that will tell future generations what it was like to be alive on the 24th of July, 2010. It is a unique experiment in social filmmaking, and what better way to gather a limitless array of footage than to engage the world's online community," Macdonald said.
"A vital part of our mission is to support individual storytelling around the globe and to provide a platform for expression and experimentation," Sundance director John Cooper said. "This is a great way to engage the YouTube community and to provide festival audiences with something new and unexpected."

  1. Oh, that sounds like a very neat idea. Yes, it would be interesting to read/see what people did on that day. Cultural things are interesting to me! You'll have to remind us on the 22nd or 23rd so we'll take notice of what we do. :) Neat idea!
