It's Been 19 Year ( Black Ribbons Campaign)

oh god, it's like yesterday when i heard about the ladies who drove their cars in Riyadh, we got the news from the BBC and it was huge. Today some activist are trying to remember this day to gain more rights for The Saudi Women, what women need here is nothing but to be treated equally and not as second class . These are the demands that the activists are demanding right now and asking women to wear the ribbons today , and i'm quoting from the SaudiWomanBlog Here :-

A) Saudi woman be treated as a citizen just like her male counterpart.
B) Saudi woman enjoys her rights to marry, divorce, inherit, gain custody of children, travel, work, study, drive cars and live on an equal footing with man.
C) Saudi woman gain the legal capacity to represent herself in official and government agencies without the need of a male guardian.

WE just want to be treated equally !!!

and i'm labeling this under Personal because IT'S .

  1. I think all citizens should be treated equally regardless of their sex, sect, color, or tribe!

I wish they can drive even though I know once they do, they will ask the government to ban them again :P

  2. Hopeless Poet, you know i do believe that we all treated badly in our country-men and women plus children- but the problem is that the weak put it on the weaker ,hence the men and women problems,. i am speaking of experience when i say that men treat women badly here and not only my experience but women all around me. let's leave this aisde, still women are second class in our country, the problems are men can not see it. as for cars, i don't it's the main problem but it's a problem and needed to be solved, we have way other important problems. let's first drive and then complain, lol

  4. I know it is not only the driving and I totally agree specially with women representing themselves in government agencies and offices. Specially passports office! And I think the female employees will finish the papers faster than the men here :P

I didnt really understand this "Saudi woman enjoys her rights to marry, divorce, inherit, gain custody of children, travel, work, study". Don't women here marry, divorce, raise kids on their own and study and work? And if not then it is more of a family issue rather than government law!
I know for travel they will need the permission of wali alamr so that may change soon like Kuwait.

  5. I was shocked when I found out that KSA is one of the signatory country in CEDAW (Woman's right) but it never practice what it preach!

  7. Hopeless Poet, you said ( I didnt really understand this "Saudi woman enjoys her rights to marry, divorce, inherit, gain custody of children, travel, work, study". I know for travel they will need the permission of wali alamr so that may change soon like Kuwait) . do you know that you can not continue your studies or go to school from the beginning-if you are a women in sa- without the approvement of your father, brother , husband or whoever your guardian is, about 3 years ago in my school a father came the day of the first exams and withdrew the files of his daughters and start talking badly about them as his cause and later on we knew that it was due to marriage issues. up till now ladies can not go in a bi3tha if her guaridans so no, that's for school. work !! you can not work without the permission of your guardians, too. one of the papers needed to complete your files is a papaer from your guardian allowing you to work.inherit !!! if your guardians wanted to stop you from what's yours they can just ignore you and if you want it, you have to go to court and there you need a man to help you with it all. travel, no need to talk cuz we all know that we need permissions to travel, while men way younger than you can go anywhere, they say it's against religion but that's all lie, did they apply religion to all sorts of life or did they choose it only for women's issues cuz women don't know how to control her life and emotions and self....etc. finally, gain the custody of her children, yeah she can not untill she fight and fight and fight ,if she can, or MR. RIGHT let her have them, and the same with divorce.
sorry for the long answer but believe me life is hell here. and these things are not family issues cuz it doesn't happen in my or their's family, it happens all over the country.
and thanx for your patience :)

  10. Then we agree that it is the family and how they treat their women. The right to learn and get bi3tha is there but with extra requirement which is the wali alamr approval. I know cases where the opposite is true. The father didn't want his son to study in university and made life as hell for him till he had to run away to Jeddah and try to study there but passed away due to his illness. So my point is if the family want their women to study they will and if they don't regardless of what the laws are they won't let them.
Same goes for inheritance. There is a case where the father disowned his sons in the court so that they don't get anything after he dies and all that because of his 2nd wife.

And don't get so excited if they allow driving! Because they will also make wali alamr approval as a condition!

Thank you for your patience too :D

  11. Poet, no no we are not on the same page, lol. i think i didn't explain my self right. the wali alamr is in control beacuse the law says so, if the law didn't have that condition in everything then it's not gonna be a problem. Again, i know that even men are not all treated greatly but again that's not beacuse the law, see the guy could escape to Jeddah and study while a woman wouldn't be able to beacuse the LAW will bring her back and i'm not talking about under-age men or women. and believe me driving is not the priority, yes some made it sound so but it's not although it's important. and thanx again for explaining :)
