What are more important Religions or Countries ?

I know that this should not be a question, but i wonder after hearing like millions of people about
" Jihad Jane" , the American lady recruiting people especially women through the internet to launch terrorist fights against targets in different places.

I don't know if these accusation against this women who happens to be a Muslims -as i read -are true or not, but the question pops in my head since we have in similar situations in Saudi Arabia with people attacking and targeting places in the name of religion and happens to be Saudi at the same time. And my questions is not about whether this is in the name of Islam or not ? because it doesn't matter what we say and prove that this is not the real Islam, they are able to twist some verses from the Quran or sayings of the prophet to go with their missions.

I wonder what is more important to anyone : is it your religion or your country ? . Because apparently these people have chosen their religion over their countries. Lots of them terrorist here in Saudi Arabia chose that . Some do so by calling for the fight or death of the Shi'a in Saudi Arabia, Are not they our brothers and sisters in nationality ?
In Lebanon, at the last war with Israel , some attack others and call them traitors for other countries just because they criticizes the war, and vise versa.
In Iraq, hundreds of brothers are killed everyday on the hand of their brothers in the name of religions and sects.
In Pakistan, India, Africa, Europe and America the same is happening.

I wonder who comes first religions or countries? ,
Is it a must to hate one so you can love the other?
how can anyone say that they love their countries when they incites the killing of their fellow citizens just because they believe in another religion or another sect ?
How can you say you love your religion when you kill at all ? unless it calls for that ??

I love my religion and i love my country as well. Does that make me less Muslim ? or less patriotic? Because on the other hand ,some countries make their citizens suffer because of their religions.

Can not they get a long and walk side by side ?? , I wonder .

  1. Yes I agree with your first sentence, this shouldn’t be a question. Because there is absolutely no contradiction between patriotism and being religious. Those who explain Islam according to their plans and wishes know very well how it was in the days of our prophet PBUH, they know how he acted and what was his policy when Islam was the weakest and then the strongest. And it was nothing like what we see today. All in all I’ve never heard of any religion that demands wars and taking lives for no good reason except pure hatred.
    You’re my ideal patriot Wafa’a :)

  3. smart people know that those who commit terrorist acts are not muslim. if they were muslims why they would want the whole world to hate them? its really tough. its not fair for muslims to have to take the bad wrap for those few people who want to destroy a relgion and twist it. there are those people in all religions.
and you arent less of a muslim or less patriot because you dont feel the need to choose one above the other...you shouldnt have to.

  4. I think they are two different concepts. One is a construct made of men, the other is something handed down from God.

I dont believe anyone should hate people from other countries or other religions. It is said God created all of the different races and peoples so that we might know each other.

  5. Great post. I believe God comes first, but my understanding of God is that He wants us to show mercy, kindness and love towards one another. So there should be no "us vs. them" especially among individuals. Even if you considered someone your enemy, Jesus told us to love our enemies. So we really don't have any grounds to incite hatred against others.

(Unrelated to the post...why did you delete your comment from that post last night? I thought it was fine what you said and I'm glad you brought up what you'd heard about that book. Thanks for that. :))

  6. Of course religion is more important! We were created to worship God, and God put everything beautiful in this complete religion called Islam. Terrorism is terrorism, it is not similar to Islam and that is why I don't think that is a valid question :) Very interesting post!
I haven't seen the video, but this woman might not be a Muslim anyway; she might be doing this to support the stereotype "Muslim is terrorist"!

    ~And, miss you!

  11. ابوسنان, they are completely different but why would people choose one over the other .
And that's what God said but since when do people listen or believe.

  12. Susanne, it should be no "us vs them" , but is not that the situation right now.
Susanne, what do you think Jesus would say if he sees the world in right now ? Would he still be preaching peace and love ??

  13. OhDear! , yes we are here to worship Him and to build this earth He has given us, but the problem is that we are doing nothing but to destroy it.
About Jihad Jane, it could be, who knows.

And i missed you a lot and hope to see you writing more, but the most important things is that things are going in the right direction with you inshAllah :)

  15. Wafa', I'm glad to know you only accidentally deleted your comment. I thought it was a good one. Now I'm wondering what parts of this book are true and which are exaggerations. Jordanian society as Norma describes it does not impress me after what she's written. :( Hopefully some of this is made up because it's just awful and reallllllllllllly making me hate Arab men with this mentality. :( :( :( (Notice I didn't say all Arab men...just this stupid mentality.)

I wish you could read the book and let me know which parts seem true and which seem totally false. Maybe this does happen in Jordan, but not so much elsewhere among Arabs??

As for the topic of this post...yes, I believe Jesus would tell us to love others even now. We've tried the bombings and sanctions and war and strife and I don't think it's really worked. The best way is to feed your enemies and give them medicine if they need that -- "go the extra mile" to do good to others and change these enemies into friends. I'm willing to give "overcoming evil with good" a try. What we're doing now and have done for decades doesn't seem to be doing much good.

  16. Susanne, even if some of the book was not true, the things she talked about was true. sadly this is our Arabic and Islamic soceity.

I am gld that you still believe that Jesus would still call for love in today's world, but i think yes we do need his call.
