A Call To Men, Don't Act Like A Man

If you are a man, what do you think of the video and why do you think men act this way? is it the society, is it the way men have been brought up?
something else ?

Women, do you agree that teaching kids to not act like a girl is a way of degreading women and that by saying this we do actually built it in young's boys minds that they are superior to girls ?

Love to hear your thoughts :)

  1. I think that what he said about men, and the box are very true.
We act this way because we are raised to be strong and to protect our women(mothers, sisters and wives)

We need educated parents that break from the social norms and raise us equal, and luckily I am seeing such parents.

Men behavior as said above is a product of a deeply rooted culture, and when you talk about it with the old school folks and you manage to put them in a corner, they will pull out their winning ace: religion, "الرجال قوامون على النساء"

If the western world somewhat still struggling on this issue, when will our world start thinking about it to begin with.

We need to educate ourselves and others about humanity, and how to be one.

    Thanks for your post

  2. I can totally see it being drilled into young boys: don't cry, don't be a baby, be tough ... even though they're just little kids.

ITA that teaching kids not to act like a girl is degrading to women, and it must put in their minds that they're superior to women. :(

  3. What a beautiful idea.."My liberation as a man is tied to your liberation as a woman" loved that..of course women would never be degraded if men were open and free-minded (did I just make up that word?lol) in the first place.

So,let me think about this...to what extent should men be protective to us women?
I've always been so conventional about it..you know,I stay and raise the kids and you go hunt for food
But now that I'm looking at it from this man's point of view it really does make sense!and the cool thing about what he said is that we can totally relate to this as Arabs..listening to him made me think of all the times I told my nephew not to "act like a girl"
I do not think ALL of us mean that being a girl is a bad thing..it is usually not our intention to imply that, but I guess children could interpret that differently;"it is wrong to act like a girl" so the only reasonable conclusion to that is: "it is even more wrong to be a girl"!
So I definitely think that this guy has a point
But I also believe that men should be manly and girls should be girly,at least for me...it just doesn't make any sense for me that a man would be crying and whining all the time..not that it's a general characteristic in women...but in my opinion he should be strong and you know...a man!(maybe that's just another thing implanted in my head...huh! I'm becoming paranoid!)

Anyway, but I mean...I think men should be protective..but not just because they're men..because they love us and cherish us,and because they feel responsible for us women,so it's really all just a romantic thought in my head nothing more lol,and when this thought is implanted in any boy's head it should be implanted the right way..protect because you love not to prove your manhood...

Where was I going with all of this? 0_O
I just think that what he said is true,we should pay more attention to what we say to our children, and while at it we should just let them be themselves..if the boy wants to play with Barbie let him play with the damn Barbie lol

  7. Doomish,

sometimes i think men need more protection than women due to the way they are thinking, it's dooming them.

And i agree we need to educate parents, easily and slowly, cuz as you said it's deeply rotted in the culture and they wont mind using religion to their advantage.

Thanks a lot for your beautiful comment and you are welcome :)

  8. Aynur,

no wonder men die younger than women with all that suppressing of their emotions.

And even if they don't mean to teach kids that but that's the message that is engraved in their brains, don't be like a girl cuz you are better than her.

  9. Rain,
don't you love it when you got that message, it's like Google doesn't want us to communicate but with" yes, no, thank you and great" lol .

of course women wont be degraded but since men are taught for early ages that it's not ok to be like a girl, and since we wont ask anyone to be like someone else if they are bad, then being a girl is not good.

As i said earlier, i don't think that we need for men to protect us, but again that's me thinking and believing that.

Yes, we don't mean it but the message is there. Don't be like someone because this someone is not as good as you are. And parents always say be like that boy he is smart and funny...etc. So..? we implant the message without realizing.

Rain, i would hate to see anyone crying and whining all the time even a kid, lol. So crying is not a women thing. it might be physiological that women are more sensitive but these days i am saying more whining men and it's a bad quality in both.

Yup, what's wrong with a boy playing with Barbie and a girl playing with guns and cars. she might turn out to be the best car racer and he the best designer :D
