Breast Cancer Awareness

I am still scared of the time when I thought I had it here, here and here.
The doctor said I should come and visit her after six month and if there is nothing wrong, then no need for more visits. Sadly, I didn't go until now, making it almost another 6 months :(

Anyway, here is more about Breast Cancer Awareness which falls in this month : October.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) (also referred to in America as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM)) is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure. The campaign also offers information and support to those affected by breast cancer.
As well as providing a platform for breast cancer charities to raise awareness of their work and of the disease, BCAM is also a prime opportunity to remind women to be breast aware for earlier detection. (Source)
During Breast Cancer Awareness Month each October, people raise money by organizing activities such as theme parties or a "pink day" (when employees wear pink clothing or accessories) at work. The money raised is donated to the organizers' choice of breast cancer care or research programs.(Source)

There is a MALE breast cancer, too. Shocking !!!

Here is a project called (Scar Project) .
Before you click on the link you have to know that most of the pictures are disturbing -but is not what all diseases are, disturbing- that shows women's breasts after they have gone under the knife and some contains nudity.

Today's Biggest News For Women in Saudi Arabia

I said it before, that women wont gain any rights but with political orders from the head up. I am actually happy for these news, not very optimistic but hoping. And whether we are optimist or not, this will open many doors to women, doors for rights we lack in Saudi Arabia .
Yes, starting tomorrow religious leaders are going to either agree on that decision, calling the kind a reform and finding verses and sayings of the prophet that support that OR they will issues fatwas-and I already read one-of this being a decision against Islam and blah blah... but in four years-hopefully no more- everyone will accept it and encourage it.

I will blog about it in 2015, heck I may run for an office ;)

Three articles you can read about today's biggest news for women in Saudi Arabia.:

What's Wrong With Women !!

It's not only the crazy Qaddafi, but almost everyone.

What's wrong with women ? why do men tend to vows to fight and rule like men and not like women?

Why is it an insult being a woman ? or for a man to be like a woman?

Even women get so excited when being labeled as being good -in any thing- and can manage like real men !!

A few days ago, Qaddafi vows:
what's wrong with women ?. Is it because they are they sane, reasonable and wont destroy their countries
like him and the like of him? . And if we say that he is the craziest one out there and wont blame him for what he says, then why are we trying to degrade him and humiliate by having picture of  him like a woman !!
Isn't him being him enough degrading !!
I honestly don't know if this is a concept for different countries, but I know for sure that's one of the worst notions in our Arabic countries: to try to put a man in a lower position by comparing him to a woman.
Very clear messages out there for a life time lessons:
 "something wrong with women".
" You are -as a man- way better than a woman".
" women are in  lesser positions and ranks than you" .
And we wonder why do we treat our women the way we do?

My Femeo Experience

Some time ago, I received an email about this site that is part of bayt.com which is a site where you can find and apply for jobs through it .

I personally like such sites because of the rising of the unemployment rate in the country and all over the middle east. The change in the working atmosphere all over the world, so by not having a place to go work for, why not work at home probably or in a different position that what you have been studying to be.
And I guess that mostly women in Saudi Arabia may benefit from such sites because of the huge unemployment among them and the only possibility of hiring is by being teachers.
Plus, I am personally looking for a job to have another income.

Back to the email, let's quote from it what is this site about :

"At Bayt.com, our main goal is to empower people in the region to help them lead the lifestyle of their choice. The MENA region, unfortunately, has the worst track record in the world for women in the workplace, which obviously reflects on society in general. Here is a World Bank report about the topic: http://info.worldbank.org/etools/docs/library/206520/Assaad%20presentation%20WB%20LM%20conf.pdf

We are launching Femeo (http://femeo.bayt.com
), a community aiming to help and empower working women in the Middle East. We offer daily tips and advice, a networking section, and Career Assessments. It is available in both Arabic and English.

The service is a 100% free to any woman who is interested."

So the site Femeo.bayt.com is a site mainly for women looking for a job.

When you first log on to the site, you will be greeted with 10 question with the title
( What talent should you lean next),
It's a very simple quiz with a result that may surprise you. I was very surprise to know that the talent I should learn next might be in sport, any kind of sport !!.
when i think about it, it's indeed a hidden passion for me but i always believed that i wont be good for sport !!
maybe i am wrong, maybe it's something i could successes in !!

Of course, you should sign up for an account or you could sign for your account in bayt.com if you have one.
when you sign in, there is a dashboard with : Recommended Quizzes, Advice Column, Tips and Articles,Your community,You shelf and From Leading Women.

Personally I liked the "Career Assessment" at the top bar.

The site said to be "by them"
" مجتمع النساء العاملات في الشرق الاوسط"
"The Community for Working Women in The Middle East"

P.S: I haven't got a dime to post about this site, I just thought it may be useful for Arab women or women in the Middle East in general. If you like it go visit it. I am closing comment on this post .

Prevent Urine Leakage

Personal note:I know a lot of women who suffer from this for different reasons, it's really a very embarrassing matter and should be taking seriously.

Prevent Urine Leakage

It's embarrassing, rarely discussed and surprisingly common: Urinary incontinence affects an estimated 38 percent of women age 60 or older. But incontinence is a problem for millions of women of all ages, including female athletes, women with urinary tract infections, pregnant women and women who have just given birth.

Some women who suffer from stress incontinence leak urine when they put pressure on their bladder by coughing, laughing, sneezing or exercising. Others leak urine when their bodies don't give them enough warning before they have to urinate.

Dr. Sovrin M. Shah, a specialist in female urology and pelvic reconstructive surgery at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City, explains five simple ways for a woman to have better control over her bladder.

Lose a Modest Amount of Weight
A recent study published in the journal Obstetrics & Gynecology found that overweight and obese women saw a decline in their symptoms of incontinence when they lost 5 to 10 percent of their body weight -- for a 200-pound woman, that's as little as 10 pounds. Compared to the women in the study who gained weight, the women who lost weight were two to four times more likely to experience a significant reduction in leakage. Another study published in "The New England Journal of Medicine" found that overweight women who lost 8 percent of their body weight saw their incontinence episodes drop by half. "There's a direct pressure effect on your bladder," says Shah, who explains that the bladder sits atop the intestines. "If you are susceptible to leaking, you may be more so [when you are heavier]."

Keep a Strict Schedule of Bathroom Breaks

Doctors call this "timed voiding." Patients are asked to keep track of their bathroom visits and ensure that they go at least once every three hours. "If your bladder is full and you cough, you're more likely to leak," says Shah. "If you don't allow the bladder to fill, then when you cough you won't leak as much. So if you go every three hours, you can hopefully prevent or minimize leakage." Of course, if you increase your fluid intake, you must adjust your bathroom visits accordingly.

Exercise Your Pelvic Muscles
While those with severe incontinence may require surgery, those with modest incontinence may see great improvement by doing Kegel exercises. Kegels -- performed by contracting and relaxing the pubococcygeus muscles -- aim to strengthen the muscles of the pelvic floor. Kegels are often used to increase sexual satisfaction and to prepare a pregnant woman's body for the stress of childbirth. They may also "mean the difference between leaking and staying dry or between leaking a small amount and leaking a significant amount," says Shah.

Go to a Biofeedback Session

"Some people don't know where the pelvic floor muscles are," says Shah. During a biofeedback session, a physical therapist or a physician attaches an EMG patch on the perineum -- the area between the anus and the genitals. When the patient squeezes, both the therapist and the patient can see the activity displayed graphically on a screen. If the patient is incorrectly exercising the bladder, urethral or pelvic muscles, the therapist can then teach her how to perform the correct targeted exercises. Ultimately, these exercises should help relieve incontinence by building strength and bladder control.

Limit Your Intake of Caffeine and Alcohol

Caffeine and alcohol are diuretics, which means that they stimulate the kidney to produce more amounts of urine than it would if it were processing water. In addition, caffeine can irritate the bladder and increase the urge to urinate. "If you make more pee, you're more likely to leak if you sneeze," says Shah. By cutting down on your daily dose of coffee or wine, you're cutting down your risk of experiencing an episode of incontinence.

You Don't Have To Look Like This

Why do I or any woman have to look like this to be considered beautiful ?

Why don't we have enough self respect to ourselves and our bodies to let others decide for us what is beautiful and what's not ?

International Women's Day 2011 ( Saudi Arabia )

March 8, 2011 is  International Women's Day.

On Thursday March 3, i posted the second annual report about women's right in Saudi Arabia here which was gloomy, the least to say.
Here are some of it's highlight:-

1- Saudi Arabia still applying " The guardian law" on adult women. This law prevents women from getting marriage, work,travel,..etc without the agreement of a male guardian from her family even if he was younger and less educated. In lots of cases, sons become the guardian of their mothers.

2- Forced marriage is still wide spread in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. And different kind of marriages have emerged recently with different names which strips women from the basic rights such as alimony . Some statistics have shown that "Misyar" marriage was the number one reason for divorce in some cities of the country.

3-Adult women are still being prevented from getting marriage by the fathers . In one particular case , a forty year old doctor and her sisters are prevented from marriage till now because of the constant refusal of her father and when she filed a suit against him , she was accused by the court of rebelling against her father.
Some of the reasons why some fathers refuse to allow their daughters to marry are :-
A- the fathers wants to have his daughter's salary.
B- the suitor is from a different tribe.

4- Lots of women can not get divorce in what known as " Kul' " because the  intransigence of the husband, in one case a woman waited 12 years to get divorced.

5- About a million and half of the Saudi women are not married yet not by a choice but due to different reasons such as male guardians keeping their daughter single, poverty, separation between men and women, tribal and sectarian intolerance and the social statue.

6-Domestic Violence is spreading . There is no law that prevent and punished those who commit violence against women. Most women afraid to report such cases for the fear of divorce and shame.
In some cases violence against women are spreading outside the home where the husbands are attacking their wives in malls and can not be stopped by anyone.

7- Wives an husbands can be separated for not being from equal tribes. sometimes the cousins can file a law suit to separate their female cousins from their husbands for this reasons and even win it.

8- Lack of work opportunities and limited kind of works stop thousands of women from having the mean to a good life. Businesswoman can not work freely without a "legal guardian" .

Laws against women :-

1- Women still can not register her new born baby. Women can not register the death of a relative.

2- Despite working for the same ministry, women's salary is still low by thousands to their male counterparts in the Ministry of Education.

3-Women who apply to study abroad on the expenses of the Ministry of Higher Education can not be granted  that unless proving the acceptance and the presence of a male guardian to go with them.

4- Women can not go under surgery without the approval of a male guardian.

5- The Ministry of Labor have not applied resolution 122 which allows women to work in the malls and public places due to the huge influence of religious scholars and some businessmen.

6- In some cases at courts, women weren't allowed to attend cases which they are part in.

Despite all these gloomy facts, women in Saudi Arabia now are stronger and don't shy to raise their voices to ask for their God giving rights .
Let's just hope that sometime soon they will get it, cuz some are on stake here.

Hala Aldosari , a blogger and a writer, have established a site called " مدونه حقوق المرأة السعودية " " Saudi Women's Rights" which shed lights on women rights in Saudi Arabia. Be sure to visit it, it's full of useful information.

10 Rules for Brilliant Women

10 Rules for Brilliant Women .
And since you ALL are brilliant ones, ladies :) ,
then this is definitely are for you .

Read them And Embrace them.

I coach brilliant women, lots of them. Dedicated, talented, brilliant women.
Most of the time, they don't know their brilliance. They are certain they "aren't ready" to take on that next bigger role. They are more attuned to the ways they aren't qualified than to the ways that they are. They are waiting for someone to validate or discover them. Sound familiar?
It's a huge loss. Collectively, we miss out on the contributions of thousands of capable leaders. Brilliant women themselves miss out on the fulfillment that comes from using their abilities fully.

Let's set ourselves on a different path, with these 10 rules for brilliant women:

1-Make A Pact
No one else is going to build the life you want for you. No one else will even be able to completely understand it. The most amazing souls will show up to cheer you on along the way, but this is your game. Make a pact to be in it with yourself for the long haul, as your own supportive friend at every step along the way.

2- Imagine It
What does a knock-the-ball-out-of-the-park life look like for you? What is the career that seems so incredible you think it's almost criminal to have it? What is the dream you don't allow yourself to even consider because it seems too unrealistic, frivolous, or insane? Start envisioning it. That's the beginning of having it.

 3-Supress Your Inner Critic
Start doing things that make you gasp and get the adrenalin flowing. Ask yourself, "What's the gasp-level action here?" Your fears and a tough inner critic will chatter in your head. That's normal, and just fine. When you hear that repetitive, irrational, mean inner critic, name it for what it is, and remember, it's just a fearful liar, trying to protect you from any real or seeming risks. Go for the gasps and learn how false your inner critic's narrative really is, and how conquerable your fears.

4- Get A Thick Skin
If you take risks, sometimes you'll get a standing ovation, and sometimes, people will throw tomatoes. Can you think of any leader or innovator whom you admire who doesn't have enthusiastic fans and harsh critics? Get used to wins and losses, praise and pans, getting a call back and being ignored. Work on letting go of needing to be liked and needing to be universally known as "a nice person."
( my biggest problem which needs a long post <<< Wafa' Speaking :) )

 5-Be An Arrogant Idiot
Of course I know you won't, because you never could. But please, just be a little more of an arrogant idiot. You know those guys around the office who share their opinions without thinking, who rally everyone around their big, (often unformed) ideas? Be more like them. Even if just a bit. You can afford to move a few inches in that direction.

6-The Voice That Says, "I'm Not Ready Yet."
I know, I know. Because you are so brilliant and have such high standards, you see every way that you could be more qualified. You notice every part of your idea that is not perfected yet. While you are waiting to be ready, gathering more experience, sitting on your ideas, our friends referenced in rule five are being anointed industry visionaries, getting raises, and seeing their ideas come to life in the world. They are no more ready than you, and perhaps less. Jump in the sandbox now, and start playing full out. Find out just how ready you are.

7-Don't Wait For Your Oscar
Don't wait to be praised, anointed, or validated. Don't wait for someone to give you permission to lead. Don't wait for someone to invite you to share your voice. No one is going to discover you. (Well, actually, they will, but paradoxically, only after you've started boldly and consistently stepping into leadership, sharing your voice, and doing things that scare the hell out of you.)

 8-Filter Advice
Most brilliant women are humble and open to guidance. We want to gather feedback and advice. Fine, but recognize that some people won't understand what you are up to (often because you are saying something new and ahead of your time). Some people will find you to be not their cup of tea. Some will feel threatened. Some people will want to do with your idea only what is interesting or helpful to them. So interpret feedback carefully. Test advice and evaluate the results, rather than following it wholesale.

 9-Recover And Restore
If you start doing the things that make you gasp, doing what you don't quite feel ready to do, and being more of an arrogant idiot, you are going to be stretching out of our comfort zone--a lot. Regularly do things that feel safe, cozy, and restorative. Vent to friends when you need to. Acknowledge the steps you've taken. Watch your tank to see how much risk-taking juice you have available to you. When it's running low, stop, recover and restore.

10-Let Other Women Know They Are Brilliant
Let them know what kind of brilliance you see, and why it's so special. Call them into greater leadership and action. Let them know that they are ready. Watch out for that subtle, probably unconscious thought, "because I had to struggle and suffer on my way up...they should have to too." Watch out for thinking this will "take" too much time - when the truth is it always has huge, often unexpected returns.

Another Canadian Women Wants to leave Saudi Arabia

Last month a Canadian Muslim citizen was allowed to leave Saudi Arabia where she was captured for three years because her family disapprove of her boyfriend in Canada. This is another story from The Epoch Times .

Here is the story :-

Montreal Woman, Children Trapped in Saudi Arabia

Just as one Canadian woman who had been stranded in Saudi Arabia was finally able to leave last month, another remains trapped under that country’s male guardianship system—along with her three young children.

For the past five years, Nathalie Morin, 25, has wanted to return to Canada with her children but cannot leave Saudi Arabia without the consent of her common-law husband, Saeed Al Sharahni, who she alleges is abusive.

According to Johanne Derocher, Morin’s mother who lives in Montreal, Al Sharahni beats Morin and for long periods kept her and the children locked in an apartment, isolated from society. The situation has deteriorated for Morin since the family recently moved to Al Sharahni’s mother’s home in Bisha, a city in southwestern Saudi Arabia near Yemen.

Although the children have more freedom now, Derocher says Al Sharahni’s family verbally abuses Morin and often confines her in a small storage room, sometimes for over 30 hours at a time and without food or water, despite temperatures of 40 C in Bisha.

“They’re trying to make her get sick and crazy, so she’s going to be on her knees and she’s going to have to come back to Canada. That’s what they’re trying to do,” says Derocher, adding that the family is illiterate and extremely poor.

“The mother is a widow, so now they’re trying to push my girl out of the country and they’re going to get money for the mother. She thinks she’s going to have a Filipino take care of the children, the house, the food, everything, and the government is going to pay that. So for them it’s a very big stroke of luck.”

Custody issue

Derocher, who speaks to her daughter regularly by telephone, says Al Sharahni will allow Morin to leave without the children but she refuses, fearing they will be further neglected if she’s not there.

However, in a meeting with Canadian consular staff in October 2009, Al Sharahni said he would allow Morin to leave with the children if Canada paid him $300,000.

Derocher says this was a perfect opportunity for Canadian officials to pressure the Saudi government for Morin and the children’s freedom, as it was proof that Al Sharahni only cares about the money, not the children.

But that didn’t happen. Instead, a consular official told Derocher in an email that since Al Sharahni’s demand was legal under Saudi law, “we cannot take sides and will continue to consider the situation of Mrs. Morin and her three children as a private, family matter.”

Foreign Affairs spokesperson Simone MacAndrew said Tuesday that consular officials have advised Morin that she and Al Sharahni must resolve the issue of child custody through appropriate Saudi legal channels before the government can facilitate the children’s return to Canada.
Both Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon and Parliamentary Secretary Obhrai have raised this issue with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia when they visited the country, MacAndrew said.

“Consular officials continue to support Ms. Morin in resolving the situation, but are limited by the laws of Saudi Arabia. With the assistance of Saudi officials, consular officials hope that Ms. Morin and her husband can reach an agreement for the positive resolution of this case,” she said.
The oldest child, Samir, age 8, was born in Canada while Abdullah, 4, and Sarah, 18 months, were born in Saudi. According to the group Nathalie Morin’s Support Committee, Abdullah and Sarah were conceived as a result of rape by Al Sharahni.

Marie Eve Adam is a member of the support committee and also works for Bloc Quebecois MP Francine Lalonde. She says she and Lalonde have been “doing many things” to help Morin and the children return to Canada, including meeting with the Saudi ambassador last month.

In cases of American women trapped under Saudi’s male guardianship system, Adam says agreements were negotiated for them to leave the country without the permission of the male guardian.

“The kids usually stay over there unless there is proof that they are badly treated by the Saudi father—which is the case. We have medical reports that Samir is not well treated, and we are asking the Canadian government to negotiate the same thing with the Saudis.”

Bisha 'worst place'

It was thanks to media attention that Nazi Quazi, a Canadian citizen who was stuck in Saudi Arabia for almost three years because her father disapproved of her boyfriend, was finally allowed to leave in early May.

According to Muslims for Progressive Values, Quazi said she obtained her father’s consent to leave the country after her family decided the media coverage made them appear dishonourable.

Adam says media attention in Morin’s case has also helped. “I mean, it’s not resolved, but it’s always put us a bit forward—the media coverage. It’s the only thing that worked.”

Morin and Al Sharahni met in 2001 in Montreal. Soon after the birth of their first child in 2002, Al Sharahni was deported for being in the country illegally. Morin joined him in Saudi Arabia in 2005, when she was just 20.

“She was very idealistic and she thought she was going to make a family with him and everything, but about three weeks after she arrived there he beat her for the first time—a very bad beating,” says Derocher.

Morin returned to Montreal alone in 2006 for a month, but missed the children so much she returned to Saudi.

With Morin already having attempted suicide once, Derocher says she’s very worried about her. She’s also concerned for the children’s welfare in Bisha, which she says is a hub for drug and munitions trafficking as well as terrorist groups.

“That’s the worst place in Saudi. It’s the very worst place, where the people are very hard. So I am very afraid that my girl and my grandchildren are there.”

-end of article -

Whether she is telling the truth or not, let the woman leave if she wants to leave. And give her her kids , she is a mother.
We can not continue being a country where women can not leave their husbands because he is a "guardian" on her even with such abusive situation.
What can a woman do when her executioner is the one who should be her protector. ??. Damn kingdom.

The war with Niqab and Burqa

First it was in some places in France, and now probably Belgium.

But I wonder why didn't the South American countries go after the Niqab ? how about the non-Muslim African and Asian countries? . Though it is attacked in some Arabic countries.

Why is it the industrial west. And why didn't America go after it, too ?

P.S: Does the size of the font bothers you ? or is it ok ?
